Couple of quick thoughts on some recent criminal cases, and their developments.

AJ Freund

For those unaware, last month, AJ Freund’s parents reported him missing. He was said to have left in the night, no one knew how or why. That is a red flag statement. By claiming he just vanished in the night, his parents basically announced to the world that he was dead. And they had something to do with it.

And they did.

His body was found a few days later. AJ Freund had been dead for a few days before his father buried him in a shallow grave. At the same time it was revealed that the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services had been to the home numerous times, and never acted. His parents were basically hoarders, and he lived a life of suffering that no one should experience.

Today, police revealed that his mother had video on her phone of him lying in bed, beaten.

The video on JoAnn Cunningham’s phone, taken more than a month before Andrew “AJ” Freund’s death, showed the boy had severe bruising on his face and body, and was berated for urinating in his bed, the documents alleged.

He was 5.

What kind of monster films that, then keeps it? I hope the courts move to strip, with prejudice, her parental rights for her unborn child.

Further, this is as good a time as any to call for the death penalty for child abusers – and the method to be reciprocation. That is, the abuser dies as the child died. Not a blow-for-blow thing, but of you beat them, you are beaten. And so on. Maybe every murder should be punished this way.

Murder of Justine Damond

Again, a refresher first.

On July 15, 2017, Justine Ruszczyk, also known as Justine Damond, a 40-year-old Australian-American woman, was shot and killed by Mohamed Noor, a Somali-American Minneapolis Police Department officer, after she had called 9-1-1 to report the possible assault of a woman in an alley behind her house.

Noor was found guilty this week.

Where this gets interesting is how the Minneapolis PD seems to be struggling to hide as much as possible. According to official sources, Noor was part of a fast-track 7 month program…that doesn’t exist according to other sources. Officials state that Noor was “very suited” to being on the street…except for the psychiatrists and training officers who questioned his fitness for duty.

What is clear is that Noor, a Somali immigrant, was put forth as an example of the positive impact of having such a large Somali community in Minneapolis. His position on this is not known. The city held him up as an example to be followed.

What is also known is that he had, in his 21 months on the job, three complaints against him, one dismissed. Of the remaining two, one is Federal, and involves use of force.

Is Noor a product of his environment? Who knows. What is known is that he, while seated in his car, drew and fired across his partner’s body, killing the woman who they were talking to moments before. Because she called 911 to report a possible rape.

It’s good that he is off the force, and hopefully will receive a sentence commensurate with his actions.
